Media has ignored two more cases of polio caused by vaccine-derived poliovirus in Laos. The World Health Organization (WHO) posted about on its website on December 15.
WHO says the two new cases of vaccine-derived poliovirus infection are of a 7-month and a 14-month old boy. Both had been vaccinated with the oral polio vaccine that is known to cause polio.
As is common practice in media, cases of injuries, infections, and deaths caused by different vaccines are ignored by media or underreported, sometimes toned down in favor of vaccine. The recent two cases of vaccine-derived polio have been completely ignored by media. However, CIDRAP – Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy – posted a short summary of the cases on its website in its December 16 News Scan.
