All Animal Rights (AAR), a nonprofit global animal advocacy organization, has urged US First Lady Michelle Obama to stop using mammoth ivory jewelry.
The petition launched on Change.org by the United Kingdom-based AAR explains that displaying mammoth ivory jewelry can increase the incidence of endangered elephants via poaching for their tusks. This is because elephant tusks are easy to be disguised as mammoth tusks, which are in demand for jewelry.
Leaders and celebrities lead toward positive change via example. Animal rights activists hope that Mrs. Obama will lead by example for caring for the vulnerable, voiceless inhabitants of this planet.
