There’s fire in the North Sea, jet fuel burning and cyanide possibly leaking into the water, creating the fear of an environmental disaster for the marine life after a big clash between US and Portuguese ships. Speak of so-called advanced technologies and communications of the 21st Century!
As reported, the collision happened on Monday off Hull port and fishing centre (United Kingdom) between American oil tanker MV Stena Immaculate and Portuguese cargo ship MV Solong. Stena was loaded with jet fuel for American military and Solong carried sodium cyanide, which is highly toxic.
The Sun reported that Solong was on autopilot and the disaster in view now makes one wonder again about the importance of being human for any seat in a sailing, driving, or flying object whether on land or in the ocean.
Since Russia has to blamed for everything, some media in the west already cried Russia though calling it speculation at this point. Daily Mail wrote:
A senior White House official told the maritime website gCaptain.com that foul play had not been ruled out. There was speculation that the Solong might have been hacked by Russia or other hostile states and turned into a ‘spear’.
Interestingly, the stories of suspected foul play in the catastrophic Maui fires have long died and it won’t be realistic to expect a revisit of that disaster during the Biden administration.
