This week a new video of cruelty and torture has exposed yet another case of farming industry’s brutal abuse of cows. Posted to YouTube on June 9, the video shows what happens to cows behind closed doors at Chilliwack Cattle Sales in Chilliwack, BC, Canada.
Alicia Graef’s story on Care2 informs that the footage was obtained by Mercy for Animals Canada, and it shows cows at the facility treated like concentration-camp inmates – dragged with metal chains around their necks, beaten severely with rods, kicked, and left bleeding and festering while robbed off milk for industrial profit.
There is every reason to believe that such abuse of farm animals is way more common than is reported. And with all the need to iterate, diary industry desperately needs to be humanized. On a personal level, we can make a difference by switching to non-dairy creamers and creating awareness about the pain the cows are put through in order to get that glass of milk or pack of cheese on your dinner table.
