Moving house can be seriously stressful, especially when you have kids in tow. For this reason, moving to a new place is something that most of us dread, as the stress that comes with it is just too much. From the packing up of your old home to the deep clean that comes before handing over the keys, there’s a lot that needs to be done.
Of course, sometimes, moving house is the only option, which means that you’ve got to find a way to move house without the stress. The good news is it is possible, the bad news, however, is that to make moving free of stress, organization is key. Want to know all the best hacks for moving house without the stress – then keep reading.
The first step towards an organized move is researching local removalists. The reason it’s best to go local is because this will cut the cost of your move – if your movers have to travel to get to you, they’ll charge you extra. If you’re stuck for ideas, ask friends and family whether they’re able to recommend a good removal service.
Once you’ve found one that you like the sound of, get a quote. If you’re happy with the price, book the service as soon as possible. This is important as removalists get booked up fast – the last thing you want is to have to deal with your move all by yourself. So hiring a professional service in advance is a must – if you want a stress-free move, that is.
Whatever you do, don’t just throw items into any old box. This might make packing up easier but it will make unpacking your items at the other end extremely difficult. To reduce how overwhelming it is to pack up your entire home, focus on one room at a time. Start in the loft, spend some time decluttering, and then pack up anything that you want to keep. Once you’ve done the loft, then move on to the bedrooms, bathroom, and so on.
Make sure that for each room, you mark the boxes in some way. The best option is color coding each box – have one color for each room and use it to mark your boxes. This means that at the other end, knowing where each box goes won’t be a struggle. This is important as that way you can direct your movers as of where each box goes so that everything doesn’t get dumped in one place.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you’ll be able to unpack all of the boxes from your move within a few hours. Moving is seriously stressful and extremely tiring – so the chances are that after arriving you’ll just want to sink into bed. That’s why it’s a good idea to pack each family member an overnight bag with all their essentials. As then there’s no need to rummage through boxes looking for things.
It may also be worth accepting any help that you’re offered. Be it a new neighbour offering to watch your children while you unpack or a family friend coming over to help you get your new home straight. If you want to reduce the amount of stress you’re under, don’t be afraid to accept help.
Moving house without the stress might seem impossible, but it’s not. It’s just a case of going about your move, and the preparation for it, in the right way.
