According to Government Executive, environmental scientists point to the US authorities as one of the agents responsible for decline in honey bee populations. The reason environmental groups think so is the continued approval of pesticide use by the US government.
The primary example of pesticide harmful to bee population is the chemical group neonicotinoids that has been banned by European Union but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved its use in US as pesticide earlier this year. The approval was granted despite suggestion of strong links between pesticide use and large-scale demise of honeybee population.
IPS News wrote about USDA and EPA stating that “the findings are not yet conclusive enough to take major action.”
In September, as Reuters reported, environment conservation groups sued the US government for slashing protection of reindeer habitats in the country.
