Oral health should be a priority in your life because it affects your body, mind, and finances in the long run. Noble Smiles Dentistry encourages people to observe good oral hygiene as it promotes their overall health and wellbeing. Many people do not understand the importance of oral health and regular dental checkups or why they are important… That is why they do not make it a priority. Is it important to make your oral health a priority? Why is it so? Here are some of the reasons.

1. Poor oral health can lead to low esteem issues.

Some people are not confident to interact with others because of bad breath, gum disease, or missing teeth due to teeth cavities. It also affects their confidence at work or in social gatherings. But by following a good oral hygiene regimen, you will be confident to smile again. It will also enhance your self-esteem and confidence which improves the quality of your life. It is good to take good care of your oral health to enhance your self-esteem. Professional advice and proper oral hygiene regimen are important to maintain good oral health.

 2. Oral health enhances overall health

Oral health problems including gum disease can lead to other health problems. Studies show that gingivitis may lead to cardiovascular diseases because of chronic inflammation. It also contributes to the chances of one developing a stroke, atherosclerosis, or even heart disease. Other health complications that may result due to poor oral health include diabetes, memory loss, and complications during pregnancy. Advanced gum disease during pregnancy contributes to low birth weight in newborns, and this will impact their health throughout their lives. Studies also show that gum disease contributes a lot to incidents of premature births. Gum disease is caused by bacteria, and medical practitioner research shows that bacteria can have an impact on the brain and contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.

3. Avoid costly oral health treatment in the future.

Some people may seek oral health treatment for cosmetic purposes due to teeth discoloration, missing teeth, or to simply enhance their beautiful smile. These processes are costly. But with proper oral care, you can avoid such expensive options to bring back your smile. Periodontal disease is a common dental problem, and treatment costs a lot of money. Even other dental procedures including surgeries and other corrective dental treatments do not come cheap. That is why prevention is better than having to seek dental care treatment later which will cost you more.

It helps prevent dry mouth and uneven jawbone.

Dry mouth causes bad breath, promotes bacteria infection, and decay. A dentist can recommend measures to combat dry mouth depending on the cause. Proper oral care prevents loss of teeth which leads to the uneven jawbone.

One can make their oral health a priority by scheduling regular dental checkups with a professional dentist, following an effective dental health regimen that includes proper brushing, and flossing using the right products. One should also know the first signs of gum disease and contact a dentist. Early detection will improve the chances of getting treatment effectively and fast.
