Portland, OR – Please join us to learn about protecting the Willamette River and strengthening environmental justice (EJ) in the Portland Harbor Superfund cleanup process. The Portland Harbor Community Coalition (PHCC) is leading a more inclusive, equitable, community-based process, engaging EJ communities in meaningful decision-making. With community events, media, and education, PHCC supports EJ communities in telling their stories and advancing environmental, economic, and social justice. PHCC is a group of individual community members, community of color organizations, and conservation organizations (including Sierra Club, as a supporting and advisory partner).
Cassie Cohen is Executive Director of Groundwork Portland, a non-profit that brings about sustainable community-led improvement of the environment, particularly in low-income areas. Ms. Cohen is PHCC’s principal coordinator. Her interests are in social justice and partnering with under-represented populations. She holds an MSW from PSU, and serves on Portland’s Public Involvement Advisory Council.
Faduma Ali is Community Organizer for Groundwork Portland. Ms. Ali’s recent environmental work was in the field in Rwanda and Kenya, collecting data on sustainable technology with Sustainable Energy and Water Technology Laboratory (SWEET Lab). She holds a degree in community health education with an emphasis in Environmental Science and Sustainability from PSU.
Enjoy a potluck, make new friends, and reconnect with old ones. Pizza and beverages are provided. Please bring something to share if you can. This event is open to all at no charge!
