Marley’s Ghost at Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center State Theater, February 20

by John Hettinger

Another one of my favorite bands, Marley’s Ghost, will play in concert on February 20, 800 PM, at the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center State Theater, 985 Lincoln Way, Auburn, 530-885-0156, www.livefromauburn.com.Marley’s Ghost

This West Coast band deftly dashes across decades of American music to create a sound that’s steeped in tradition but never bogged down by traditionalism. They are an eclectic aggregation composed of singer/multi-instrumentalist Dan Wheetman, Jon Wilcox on mandolin, Mike Phelan on guitar, Ed Littlefield on resophonic &steel guitar, & Jerry Fletcher on keyboards & percussion, who can sing & play anything with spot-on feel, from roots to rock, blues to bluegrass, gospel to stone country, which is what they’ve been doing, to the ongoing delight of a fervent cult that includes many of their fellow musicians, throughout their first quarter century as a working unit. Their trademark multipart harmonies never cease to captivate, whether recorded or in live performance. The band recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with their 10th CD Jubilee. The Tamara Phelan Trio will open the performance.

Tickets at $25 are available at www.livefromauburn.com.
