Georgia Bans LGBTQ Propaganda in the Country

Following the lead of Russia, the Christian-majority country of Georgia – a former Russian state – has passed legislation to ban LGBTQ propaganda. The move is expected to further anger the liberal west that has been trying to pull Georgia under its political wing.

LifeSite News reported on October 4 that a pro-family bill that restricts LGBT propaganda was passed by Georgian parliament and was signed into law by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. The bill titled “On Family Values and Protection of Minors” was passed by the conservative majority Georgian parliament 84-0 last month while the liberal opposition in the parliament boycotted the vote.

The new law bans public displays of LGBTQ events, like the “pride” marches that are commonly held in liberal-controlled countries in the west. It also bans inclusion of transgenderism and other LGBTQ propaganda in books and movies. Georgia Today cited Kobakhidze commenting on the legislation and the country’s liberal president’s opposition to it:

“Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili and the radical opposition sided with LGBT propaganda.”

Earlier this year, the liberal-globalist west was left to eat crow after the Georgian parliament passed a law requiring all organizations in the country including media to disclose their sources of foreign funding if the latter exceeds more than 20 percent – in which case the recipient would be required to register as a foreign agent. Mass protests, sponsored by liberals in the west, were confronted and handled by the Georgian police for many weeks.

To pressure the conservative Georgian government, sanctions were imposed by the Biden administration on dozens of Georgians including two government officials, prompting PM Kobakhidze to meet with and warn the U.S. Ambassador Robin Dunnigan against such intervention in Georgia’s affairs. The leftist European Union (EU) has also warned Georgia ahead of the upcoming elections this month not to “stray from democracy” or sanctions would be imposed by the EU.
