FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 02- 08-2023: Today, Defending the Republic sued the FBI for violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in its failure to produce records relating to the FBI’s efforts to suppress speech during the 2020 election. Read the complaint here.
Recent reports indicate that the FBI took part in a “massive censorship enterprise” and had an “extremely close role in working to censor freedom of speech.” FBI officials are alleged to have worked with social media companies, including Twitter, to censor Americans “under the guise of combating misinformation” during and after the 2020 election. The latest information also reveals that the FBI interfered with the 2020 election and prevented public discussion of criminal misconduct by Joe Biden when it helped suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. The records sought by Defending the Republic include FBI communications with Twitter and internal FBI e-mails regarding the 2020 election and alleged “disinformation.” These issues are the subject of Congressional hearings at the moment, with House Republicans going on the offensive against former Twitter executives for silencing conservatives:Lauren Boebert Grills Twitter Censors. The FBI’s meddling in our elections and its violation of Americans’ First Amendment right of free speech will not stand. Defending the Republic is committed to protecting this foundational right and will make sure the FBI and its leadership are held accountable for their abuses of power. This lawsuit is just the latest DTR effort to fight back against those who try to subvert our country.
