Amazon, Walmart, and Other Popular Sellers among Sexploitation Blacklist

Collective Shout, the Australian activist group campaigning for a world free of sexploitation, has released its annual blacklist list of businesses that are part of the ongoing problem of sexual abuse/exploitation of women and/or children. This year’s includes some big names like Amazon, Walmart, Carl’s Jr., and others.

Released on November 27, the Collective Shout’s annual Crossed Off list also includes MAC Cosmetics, Goda Perfume, General Pants, TeePublic, City Beach, AFL, Honey Birdette, SHEIN, Calendar Club, Falvey’s Hotel Yamanto, Cheeky Waffles, JD Sports, TK Maxx, and the all too familiar Playboy.

The media release briefly explains the sexploitation organization’s reasons for including these businesses in their list that consumers looking to shop ethically should boycott. The major reason for a call to drop these companies from one’s shopping list is their involvement at one level or another in profiting off sexualized violence against women and minors. The release states:

When women are depicted as less-than-human objects that exist to meet men’s sexual desires, it is easier for men to perpetrate and justify violence against them. Boycotting these unethical companies is one way we can remind them of their Corporate Social Responsibility and pressure them to change their behaviour.
