Hippos in Colombia are under the threat of being killed by the local authorities but two nations have teamed up to rescue them and let them live in peace – Russia and India.
As reported on the Big News Network (BNN), Russia’s Moscow Zoo and India’s Vantara – a wildlife rescue and conservation center – have jointly launched the effort to save 80 of Colombia’s hippos that the authorities in the country have declared a threat to the ecosystem and hence be euthanized.
The hippos population in this part of the world started when four of them were brought in from Africa by drug trafficker Pablo Escobar before he was killed in 1993. Now their number has exceeded 200 and the local people see them as a threat to their environment. But instead of letting these majestic creatures of nature be killed, animal rescuers in Russia and India want them to live and die naturally in peace.
