A home that doesn’t have power can be a pain in the neck. This is because you can’t then use electrical devices for any purpose. However, sometimes the electricity bill that arrives in your mailbox at the end of the month can give you a run for your money. It makes you wonder whether your home is a factory, or something close to that. What most homeowners don’t understand is that the power bill can skyrocket even when there are just a few appliances that are used regularly.

Fortunately, there are tricks that you can use to slash your power bill to a considerable figure. You only need to make a few adjustments here and there to start experiencing a decline in your electricity bill. Here are some tips that can help you in cutting back on electricity expenses by at least a half of what you normally pay without compromising on your comfort and other needs.

1. Dry Your Clothes in the Sun

Most homeowners prefer to use a clothes washing machine because it’s very efficient. The machine can actually wash many clothes at a go and dry them. But there is usually a cost for such reliability. In case you didn’t know, a clothes washing machine consumes a lot of power. Even if you clean your laundry once per week, the machine will eventually cause your utility bill to go up. You can really save a lot of energy by putting your wet laundry on the clothes line so that they can be dried by the scorching sun. Even if the weather is not sunny, the wind will also cause the moisture in the clothes to evaporate into the atmosphere.

2. Use Energy-Saving Bulbs

One of the reasons why majority of homeowners get slapped with an exaggerated power bill is because they use bulbs that draw a lot of power. Such bulbs require a lot of power to light up. As a matter of fact, electricity experts recommend people to use energy saving bulbs in their homes because they help in reducing Texas electricity bill. Besides that, you should always switch the light off when leaving a room, especially when it’s not used regularly. Even if it’s the kitchen, you should only turn on the light when you go to prepare a meal or get something from the shelves.

3. Install Solar Panel

Instead of solely relying on electricity, it’s advisable you put a solar panel on the rooftop of your house. You should then install a control switch so that you can alternate between electricity and renewable energy at ease. Solar energy can be used when the weather is too hot, especially during summer. The good thing is that the excess energy that’s harvested directly from the sun can be stored in batteries that resemble those that are used in automobiles for future use. With solar energy, you can charge your phones, light up the house, power up a computer or a laptop, and heat your water. The advantage of investing in a solar panel is that you only buy it once for all.

4. Insulate Your Home

When there are many gaps on the doors and windows of the house, the heating system has to remain switched on all the time. This is because cold air from outside tends to penetrate through such openings. You should therefore consider mending such gaps by sealing them at once. You can use special sealants where necessary and repair any damaged frames and glass panels. This helps in ensuring that there are no openings for heat to escape through, which in return keeps your home warm during cold weather. In fact, the heating system can be switched off after running for a few minutes because much of it is retained in the room.

5. Replace your Air Conditioner with a Ceiling Fan

An air conditioner consumes a lot of power for it to be able to regulate the temperature of various rooms. You can slash your power bill by half by simply fixing a fan on the sealing of your living room. This is because a fan uses much less energy than an air conditioner. This is because it has large blades that enable it to cool a large area within a short time. You can even invest in portable fans that are much smaller and yet efficient. Besides that, when buying electrical appliances for domestic use, you should confirm that they bear an energy star mark on either of their sides. Such appliances consume less energy than those that are not star rated.
